bulletLV self-healing metallized polypropylene capacitors for power applications

The research activity is carried out in coordination with the Cigré WG Capacitors, headed by D. Zanobetti, and with the support of some local manufacturers. It deals with all-film capacitors for MV applications and with LV self-healing polypropylene capacitors. Concerning the first technology, the results of an experimental investigation carried at the Department laboratory with the aim of assessing the influence of type of dielectric liquid and of the type of electrode edge on the working gradient are presented in [1]. The comparison with the mixed paper-dielectric technology has also been accomplished [2]. Concerning metalized polypropylene capacitors, the research activity is aimed at studying the behavior of such components in transient conditions (pulse regimes) typical of the power electronic applications. The research activity is developed in collaboration with the research group Electrical Measure headed by M. Rinaldi. One of the obtained results is the identification of the causes that produce the heads separation of such a kind of capacitors when they are used in the above mentioned applications. The analysis of the problem with the first results have been presented at in [3] and in [4,5]. More results and the main conclusions of the study are presented in [6] and [7].

bulletTubular-plate lead-acid accumulators and Ni-Zn batteries performance for electric vehicles applications

The research concerns the assessment of the short and long term performance of advanced batteries with the characterization of the relevant parameters. The research involves also the development and construction of microchip experimental benches for the selection of new test cycles [9-16].

Development and realization of a power systems plant for in-situ vitrification of contaminated soils

The aim of the research is the treatment of polluted soils by means of the vitrification process. The activity is developed within the framework of the National Research Program Nr. 15 ‘Technology for the reclamation of polluted soils’ supported by the Italian Ministry of Research and University. The research program involves some Departments of the University of Bologna, other national universities and two large regional corporations. The project concerns the development of four power plants for the thermal treatment of the polluted soil by means of the Joule effect corresponding to laboratory, pre-pilot, pilot and real-scale respectively. The research activity [17] includes also the electrical characterization of the soil under treatment during the subsequent phases of the vitrification process. The second, third and fourth of the above mentioned power plants, are also equipped with a gas-effluent capture and treatment system.
