CRYOSTAT
AND CRYOGENICS
The magnet cold mass has been mounted inside a
vacuum vessel 3076 mm in diameter, 5450 mm long; its weight is about 15 tons.
The cold mass is supported by four vertical tie
rods; four radial and four axial ones must support electromagnetic
displacing and transport acceleration.
The turret on the top of the vaccum vessel
contains: the two 9000 A vapor cooled current leads, a liquid helium
reservoir for their cooling, the cryogenic and safety valves, the connection
of the transfer line from the liquifier and the quench line.
The cryogenic plant includes a 100 l/h liquifier
and allows to cool the magnet with supercritical helium at 3.9 –4.5 K and
5 – 10 bar with a maximum flow rate of 15 g/s.
The calculated heat losses are: 7 W + 28 l/h at 4.2 K and 100 W at 77 K.
