-
Europa Metalli LMI has produced 8800 m of Cu/NbTi CICC (Cable in Conduit Conductor)
Cable, completely transposed, divided in 28 segments with a length of about
300 m for each.
-
None of the 28 segments have shown DC losses,
when tested in void and under pressure (with a sensibility of about 5´10-10 mbar/sec).
-
Measurements performed on the SC strand, after
the cable manufacturing, have shown that the
critical current density was not reduced.
-
The insertion of the cable in the conduit has
been performed without problems.
-
On the basis of the acquired Know-how, it
was possible to produce segments of length up to 1 km and more.
-
This technology was later adopted for the manufacturing of the LHC (CERN
- Genève) cable.
